Tuesdays with Morrie

Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live. Morrie's syllabus had one textbook: dying.

The culture doesn't encourage you to think about such things until you're about to die. We're no good at it, so we need teachers.

Love each other or perish. Morrie quoted Auden and made it his final lecture's thesis.

Devote yourself to loving others, your community, and your creation of meaning. The whole book in one assignment.

Death ends a life, not a relationship. My phone still has Morrie-quotes in drafts.

The hibiscus plant by his bed, losing petals on schedule. Death kept perfect time in that room.

Mitch's brother in Spain wouldn't return calls. The book is a reconciliation manual disguised as a goodbye.

Do I wither up and disappear, or do I make the best of my time left? He made the best of it loudly.

The final Tuesday, Mitch finally touched his face without flinching. Fifteen Tuesdays to learn a hug.

Carried out of it: schedule your Tuesdays. The people you love are the elective that matters.
